Joy in Motion: WEEK FIVE
Keep Moving: Trusting When You Do Not Understand
We are almost halfway through our 2026 Joy in Motion campaign, and this week I have been reflecting on Jesus’ words in John 13:7:
“You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
Those words could almost be the byline for my summer. How about you? Are there things happening in your life that you simply do not understand right now?
The summer of 2026 has been the Summer of Much. There have been deeply difficult days for people we love, unexpected visits, beautiful reunions and significant life changes. Some things we see coming. Others arrive without warning. People we love have been called home, leaving questions too deep for words. Changes have come on the home front and in the workplace. So much is shifting all around us.
We have watched as devastating fires have displaced families in Spokane, Lake Country and other communities across Canada and Europe. Yet amid the loss, people are rising, opening their homes and hearts to meet others in their time of need.
I remember the days after losing Ray, when simply getting out of bed felt overwhelming. But Ray had told all of us that we had to keep getting up, keep going and keep living. Our family could not have known how much more loss we would experience in the years ahead.
Looking back, I now understand something I could not then: getting up and moving was exactly what we needed to do, even if it was only one small step at a time.
That is what Joy in Motion is all about.
It is about encouraging people to move physically, spiritually, emotionally and financially. Sometimes movement means walking or cycling. Sometimes it means reaching out, praying, giving or helping someone else take a step toward hope.
We may not understand the whole story, but we can still choose our next faithful step.
We chose two remarkable organizations to support because they are moving things in the right direction, one child, one family and one community at a time.
Ally Global Foundation works to protect children from trafficking and exploitation through prevention, education, community training and survivor support.
Cycle 5 to Survive is completing five cycling journeys across five continents to support five charities creating opportunities for children and families through education, sport and business.
Thanks to the incredible Joy in Motion community, we have already passed our original fundraising goal of $10,000!
But we are not stopping. We will keep walking, riding, praying, giving and sharing because there is still more distance to cover and more good to be done.
What could your next step look like this week? A walk, a prayer, a phone call, a gift or an act of kindness? However small it may seem, take it.
There are many things we may not understand while we are living through them. Sometimes understanding comes later, and some answers may not come this side of heaven. But we can trust that God is still at work, even when we cannot see how everything fits together.
Thank you for believing with us and moving to make a difference.
Let’s keep going!
